About Us .......

LakeVisions is a forum for sharing information and generating ideas with the intention of helping to preserve the natural beauty of the Canandaigua Watershed for generations beyond us to enjoy.

Anyone who has lived in the Canandaigua Watershed area for any length of time would agree that this part of the world is a very special place. Apart from the obvious summer lakeside activities, there is much more to this valley than June, July and August would suggest. Whether it is the sheer beauty and majesty of the forest clad hills; the blue-green waters of our glacial lake; the (still mostly) rural way of life; or whether, as the Seneca Indians felt, this is a ‘chosen place’; there is something about this area that draws us to it and begs us to try to protect it. This is a watershed moment for our Watershed. Currently the Lake and its environs are under increasing environmental and developmental pressures. There are certain things that each of us can do:

LET US KNOW. If you know of information that would be useful to the well-being of the Watershed, let us know and we will put it on this site.

SPEAK UP & PARTICIPATE. Let your local officials know how you feel. Write letters to the editors of our newspapers and go to the town meetings.

DOCKING & MOORING LAW. This remarkable law is the result of a herculean effort by all six of Canandaigua Lake’s municipalities agreeing on a single set of lakeside docking and mooring laws. One of the clear intents of this law is to forbid residential marinas from proliferating on the lake.

PASS THE WORD. Let others know what is going on.
VISIT YOUR NEIGHBORS. Consider attending Town meetings of other municipalities around the lake. Many have issues that involve all of us.
SHARE YOUR VISIONS. If you have ideas or visions concerning the Lake and/or the Watershed that you wish to share, let us help you share them. There are few things as powerful as an idea whose time has come.

RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT. We need to find a way to hold developers responsible to respect & honor the scenic resource that they are a part of. We need them to design their developments to work with the existing terrain and unique environment of the watershed rather than the other way around.
